- Pareidolia -
This term describes a psychological phenomenon involving a random stimulus (usually an image) being imaginary perceived as recognizable and significant. Most common examples include images of faces or animals in clouds, stones, and in all kinds of objects, textures and stains. The word ‘pareidolia’ comes from the Greek 'para' (‘beside’, ‘with’ or ‘alongside’) and 'eidolon', the diminutive of "eidos" (‘image’, ‘form’, ‘shape’). The implicit concept is 'attached image or shape'.
